Please read carefully

  • Children must be three years old by December 31st, 2025, to enroll in a class at the Guelph Academy of Dance.

  • No one is permitted to “freeze” enrollment.  Enrollment in a dance class is for a full year; therefore, classes and payments may not be interrupted.

  • For your dancer’s success and confidence, weekly attendance is crucial. If your dancer will be away, please email the studio or call to report their absence. The studio will call families with two missed classes in a row.

  • A private lesson must be scheduled at your expense if a dancer misses three classes during recital preparation time (beginning of February – end of April). The rate for a private lesson is $50.00/hour.

  • If you intend to withdraw from classes, please inform TGAD and follow the withdrawal policy offered.

  • Refunds are not issued for missed classes.

  • Parents of students enrolled in Pre Ballet 2 and above are required to purchase tickets to the year-end recital.

  • Parents should be aware that there might be extra costs related to the end-of-year recital (for example, tights for jazz and tap costumes); however, these costs are kept to a minimum.

  • TGAD does not give out staff home phone numbers or personal email addresses.  If you want to speak to the teacher, please call, and the message will be passed to them.

  • TGAD does not pass out class lists or provide information about any students.

Families, please note that we will decide by 2:00 p.m. regarding whether to run or cancel classes. In extreme cases, we may need more time; in such instances, we will post a message on our social media page stating, “Still Deciding.” The decision will be made by 3 p.m.

We will email our studio families to notify them of our decision and update our answering machine, website, and social media sites accordingly.

If a student chooses to withdraw from a class at The Guelph Academy of Dance (TGAD), the parent or guardian must immediately contact the studio administrator (225 Hanlon Creek Blvd, Unit 14) and provide an emailed notice of the withdrawal. The studio will not officially withdraw the student from classes until the written notice of withdrawal is received via email or phone.

Dancer withdrawal from in-person classes:

  • During the first month of the dance season, a prorated refund will be provided until September 30th.

  • If your dancer withdraws between October 1st and February 28th, your account will not be charged any further monthly payments once the withdrawal notice is received.

  • Withdrawal refunds are not available after February 28th.

  • There is a non-refundable deposit of $50.00 on your account.

  • If your dancer chooses to withdraw after the costume order is placed in early December, you will not receive a refund for the costume fee. Once the order is delivered and sorted, costumes can be picked up from the office.

Dancer withdrawal from online classes if the studio is mandated closed by the Ontario Government:

  • During the first month of the dance season, a prorated refund will be provided until September 30th.

  • If your dancer withdraws between October 1st and February 28th, your account will not be charged any further monthly payments once the withdrawal notice is received.

  • Withdrawal refunds are not available after February 28th.

  • There is a non-refundable deposit of $50.00 on your account.

  • If your dancer chooses to withdraw after the costume order is placed in early December, you will not receive a refund for the costume fee. Once the order is delivered and sorted, costumes can be picked up from the office.

TGAD does keep attendance records, but this is not a monitoring system. If you intend to withdraw, it is your responsibility to contact the school.

If your child withdraws from a class due to illness or an injury, please provide the school with a doctor’s note so that an appropriate prorated refund can be issued.

Uniforms 2025-2026

We recommend Freestyle Dancewear in the Grange Road Plaza (259 Grange Road)   They are fantastic and have everything you will need for class.

Pre Ballet – Pre Ballet 1, 2, 3, 4, Primary

Body Suit: Pink – Tank, Long, or Cap Sleeves
Tights: Pink or skin-toned Ballet Tights
Ballet Shoes: Pink ballet slippers (no laces)
Hair: Hair should be neatly tied back from the face in a ponytail, a bun,  and/or a hairband.

Ballet – Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Inter Foundation, Intermediate, Advanced 1 + Pointe 1, 2, 3, 4

Body Suit:

  • Grade 1, 2, 3: Lilac (So Danca “Millie” tank – SL11 child/SL10 adult)

  • Grade 4, 5: Dark Purple (So Danca “Millie” tank – SL11 child/SL10 adult)

  • Inter Foundation – Advanced 1): Black

Tights: Pink or skin-toned CONVERTABLE Ballet Tights
Ballet Shoes: Pink or skin-toned CANVAS ballet slippers
Character Shoes: 

  • Grade 3, 4, 5: Cuban heel

Character Skirt: Grade 3, 4, 5 only – Black
Pointe Shoes:

  • Pointe 1, 2, 3, 4 only

  • Important: Pointe 1 dancers – Do not purchase pointe shoes for the start of the year; we will make an appointment in November.

Hair: Hair must be neatly tied back in a bun

Jazz – Pre Jazz, Jazz 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

Top or Bodysuit: May be the colour of your choice (bodysuit or athletic tank top)
Pants:  Black dance pants, black Capri pants (yoga), or black bike shorts over the bodysuit.
Jazz Shoes: Tan leather
Tights: Students will need to purchase tan tights for the recital, but do not need to wear them in class
Hair: Hair should be neatly tied back from the face in a ponytail and/or hairband.

Hip-Hop – Hip Hop 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11

Top: T-shirts or tank tops (no specific colour necessary)
Pants: Capri pants, athletic pants, or sweat pants that you can move in (no jeans please)
Shoes: Clean and Dry INDOOR ONLY, NON-MARKING running shoes (BLACK running shoes for recital)
Hair: Hair should be neatly tied back from the face in a ponytail and/or hairband.

Tap – Tap 1, 2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8, 9, 10 and Beginner Tap 

Top or Bodysuit: May be the colour of your choice (bodysuit or athletic tank top)
Pants:  Black dance pants, black Capri pants (yoga), or black bike shorts over the bodysuit.
Tap Shoes: Black
Tights: Students will need to purchase tan tights for the recital, but do not need to wear them in class
Hair: Hair should be neatly tied back from the face in a ponytail and/or hairband.

Musical Theatre – Musical Theatre 1/2, 3/4 5/6, 7, 8, 9, 10

Top: T-shirts or tank tops (no specific colour necessary)
Pants: Capri pants or full-length pants that you can move in (no jeans please)
Jazz Shoes: Tan leather
Character Shoes: Musical Theatre 9 and 10 only – So Danca 2″ heels in Caramel
Hair: Hair must be neatly tied back in a ponytail or with a hairband

Contemporary – Contemporary 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8

Top or Bodysuit: May be the colour of your choice (bodysuit or athletic tank top)
Pants:  Black dance pants, black Capri pants (yoga), or black bike shorts over the bodysuit.
Contemporary Shoes: Leo “Illusion” OR Bloch “Eclipse” turners
Hair: Hair should be neatly tied back from the face in a ponytail and/or hairband.
